Democrats are Evil and Republicans are Stupid: Republicans demonstrate how to allow a good crisis to go to waste.

As a conservative it’s difficult to have hope in today’s political climate, even after this recent overwhelming victory, when you watch our Republican representatives respond to leftist debate and attack.  Days after the swearing in of the 112th Congress, a politically motivated whack job gunned down a Blue Dog Democrat at a public speaking event, because he didn’t see her as leftist enough for his tastes.  After years and recent months of the radical left calling for violence against the state and political rivals, one of their soldiers took the first shot.  He took out six people and critically injured his main target.

The first big story of 2011 hits the airwaves…. and it’s political.  The left-wing pundits wasted no time.  At 3:22 pm EST Paul Krugman pumped out “The Conscience of a Liberal’.  The shootings had occurred barely an hour and a half earlier.  He immediately made the connection to the Tea Party and Republicans.  We didn’t have much information on Jared Loughner at that time, much less his political views.  Fearing, myself, that it might be politically motivated, I too wondered if it was a right-wing nut job.  Living in a hostile [to conservativism] world it’s difficult to not fall under the illusion that there are bible-thumping, gun-toting crazy right wingers ready to shoot down those who disagree with them.   From news anchors to pundits on the Left this is their talking point.  If you don’t see and think for yourself you too can fall under this spell.  I was as shocked as everyone else to hear he was a leftist.  The powers-that-be got over that shock very quickly.  By this morning, on the major morning news shows, they were all in sync, locked and loaded, with putting the blame on the Tea Party and the Republican Party.  It’s an amazing sight to behold how quickly the Left works.  On Meet the Press, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D) derided the ‘atmosphere’ created by the Tea Party challenging the government setting the tone for this (one of their) radical's act of violence.  The moderator goes on to point out examples of both sides faults [3 by Republicans/1 by Democrats] in order to maintain a façade of impartiality.  Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schulz (D) quickly brings him back on track and references a remark made by a campaign staffer of Alan West’s (R) during his run in Florida.  Rep Cleaver said this should be used as opportunity to see that we’re headed in the wrong direction i.e… the retaking of the House by Republicans, ushered into victory by the Tea Party, was a mistake brought on by the unfounded anger and bitterness of the electorate against the innocent government.  Rep. Raul Grijalva (D) of Arizona added that this tragedy is a reason for increased gun control.  The moderator references back to the Oklahoma City bombing and a recent speech on the topic by Bill Clinton.  In the midst of all this leftist damage control you wouldn’t have known that there were two other Congressmen in the room with “Rs” by their name:  Rep. Raul Labrador from Idaho and Rep. Trent Franks of Arizona.

I’m not really sure what page these Republican Congressman were on.  In listening to their responses, it didn’t sound like they were ‘in sync’ with any type of message or opportunity of which they may or should be taking advantage.    It sounded more like they’d been called out of their country clubs and off their golf courses and were using the same pacifist terms and strategies from the same tired play book used by John McCain and every other Republican prior to November 2008.  I thought we’d learned our lesson and had developed new strategies.  The Republican from Arizona even assists the Left by dismissing the shooter as representative of any political views.  The Republican from Idaho barely reacts to Rep. Grijalva’s suggestion that it’s time to address gun control.  His Democratic counterparts hardly referenced the shooter at all!  These Republicans weren’t even discussing the same topic as those on the Left.  Did they not even realize that?  Are they lazy?  Are they that dim?  Do they feel cocky in their recent victory that they don’t realize that they have to stay on their feet? –taking me back to the question “are they lazy” or just as bad “Are they dim”.

Each of these Congressmen had ample opportunity to address the panel and respond more aggressively.  They bypassed each and every opportunity.  Do Republican Congressman exist in a bubble?  Where they don’t pass useful and helpful information off to each other.  NBC is known for leaning left politically.  It is these Congressmen’s and their staff’s job to know that they’re walking into enemy territory and must come prepared.  In watching the panel I could respond to the moderator’s question without disarming the opportunity.  Why shouldn’t we be able to count on those we’ve elected to represent us to also be competent and think fast on their feet?

In watching other panels this morning I was able to conclude that the Right and its representatives did manage to be in sync on one thing:  “Lie down and play dumb”.  On ‘Face the Nation’ another Arizona Republican, Sen. John Kyle, reiterated the statement that politics isn’t what motivated this individual, despite evidence to the contrary supplied by the shooter before this tragedy.  Even right wing pundit Brit Hume, on Fox News Sunday, droned in almost like a zombie:  “Not politically motivated”.

In joking about the Left I’ve said that they’re like zombies in how they parrot the same talking points from each individual, politician or pundit.  Their talking points have won them elections and political victories in the recent past.  I failed to take the time to look at the politicians who represent my own views.  Until now I didn’t fully understand the extent of the underlying self destructive nature of self delusion that exists within the Republican party.  Month in and month out those on the Left have managed to keep those on the Right on the defensive.  Even after an overwhelming victory the Right seems to have been afflicted with amnesia about how hard it was to get back into power and what is at stake to stay in power.  Almost like bad students who don’t want to pay attention in class they don’t seem to have absorbed the lessons of the last four years.  Somehow or other they graduated anyway and they're now our representatives.  If they lose their seats and corrupt Democrats regain their majority, poseur Republicans will eat their just desserts.
